Raster datasets in ArcGrid format

Citation of the ArcGrid data

The following links provide access to global grids of the hydrogen and oxygen isotope composition of precipitation and environmental waters in ArcGrid format. Use the links below to access downloadable file bundles archived with WinZip.

Global and Regional Precipitation

Files below include georeferenced ArcGIS raster coverages, ArcGIS 9 project files for map display, and complete metadata. The mean annual precipitation files also include shapefiles giving the location of all data stations and a raster of the 95% confidence intervals for the map predictions. The mean annual precipitation grids are updated versions of those produced in the Bowen and Revenaugh (2003) study, and the confidence interval grids are the original versions from that publication (new versions are being produced and should be available in early April). The growing-season grids are those reported in the Bowen et al. (2005) paper. Right-click (PC) or shift-click (Mac) to download files (~500 K each), extract to a working directory, and go!

The files below offer complete ArcGIS grid sets giving annual and monthly precipitation isotope ratio estimates at 10' resolution. The WinZip archives contain the grid files only, stored in a geodatabase. These files provide the most complete and flexible content, but are also quite large (e.g., up to 20 Mb for the continental data sets, 77 Mb for the global grids).

South African Tap Water

The archive below includes maps of H and O isotope ratios and deuterium excess values for tap water in South Africa. The data layers are documented in the file readme.txt included in the the zip archive. The files were prepared using the method of Bowen et al. (2007) and a new data set of West et al. (in prep.)

USA River Water

The archives below contain new maps of H and O isotope ratios for surface waters (rivers, streams) across the contiguous USA at 1 km x 1 km. These files represent the residual-corrected spatiotemporal model results of Bowen et al. (2011).
